Welcome to The Essence of Water

Welcome to The Essence of Water, devoted to the art of the essay.

We – Mark Hannam, Vero Rousseau, Matt Boutte, and me, Peter Freilinger – write about the process and experience of being human, with a focus on the unique role of places and history in our lives in a world that seems determined to erase all traces of either.

Thanks for reading, we welcome comments – in fact we relish them.  We love getting email as well, and the authors share an address  – please write to us at:

And be sure to check out the Book Club page to see what the Essence of Water is reading and thinking about this week!
